New York date for Cardiff youth band
Young musicians from Cardiff are raising funds to ‘be a part of it’ in New York, New York.

Cardiff County and Vale of Glamorgan Music Service’s Youth Wind Band are holding a special fundraising gala concert next month to raise money for their tour of the USA which includes an invitation to play at one of the most famous concert venues in the world.

The young people have been asked by to perform in the world-famous Carnegie Hall as guests of the New York International Wind Festival in April and are staging an evening of musical entertainment on Monday, February 8 at Cardiff City Hall .

The young musicians are looking forward to joining the likes of Luciano Pavarotti, the Beatles and Judy Garland in gracing the stage at the celebrated venue in Manhattan but before that, they are busy rehearsing for the Cardiff fundraiser.

The programme at City Hall includes a work by Welsh composer, Gareth Glyn - "Dolbadarn" Millennium Fanfare - as well as selections from long-running musical, Phantom of the Opera. The internationally famous Cory Band will be the special guests of the Youth Wind Band while renowned euphonium soloist David Childs will also share the concert platform.

Head of the Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan Music Service, Jeff Davies, said: “The gala concert will be a fantastic experience for these young players from the Youth Wind Band to rub shoulders with David Childs and the World of Brass No1 Brass Band in the world. This will be a wonderful evening of music which we hope will raise money to help fund the tour of the USA.�

Tickets for the gala concert cost £8, £6 for concessions and are available at the door on the evening of the concert. Doors open at 6.45pm.
