£55m upgrade for Wales roads
A £55m grant for local authorities aimed at improving roads, tackling regional transport issues, and encouraging safer routes in communities has been announced by the Deputy First Minister.

Road schemes to receive cash include Ceredigion Stage 1 project, the Church Village Bypass, highway improvements to Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr in Caerphilly, Holyhead port Access Road and the A4226 Five Mile Lane in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Under this year’s allocation of the National Transport Grant, road schemes receive £46m, while Safe Routes in Communities projects get a £8.5m boost.

Ieuan Wyn Jones, who is also the Minister for Economy and Transport, said: “This funding will enable local authorities to progress, and substantially complete a wide range of projects. It will also help take forward our ‘One Wales’ commitments.

"I am also keen to build on the success of the Safe Routes in Communities initiative by giving extra funding to the scheme which is now in its third year. Projects delivered to date have helped improve accessibility within local communities and enhance road safety."
