Blaenau Gwent stops turbines
Blaenau Gwent Council and local people have welcomed a public inquiry decision to block the building of four large wind turbines on a mountainside.

An independent inspector from the Planning Inspectorate Wales dismissed the appeal by Pennant Wind Energy Ltd.

The firm appealed after the Council’s planning committee rejected its application to build the wind turbines overlooking Blaina.

Local people opposed the development, formed a protest group and gave evidence during the inquiry.

The planning inspector said: “There are compelling reasons to dismiss the appeal in relation to the effect of the proposed development on the character and appearance of the landscape and surrounding area.

Coun Des Hillman, Leader of Blaenau Gwent Council said: “We worked closely with people from the local communities to put together a strong case. The voice of local people has been heard loud and clear.
