Swans reject Blackpool bid for Angel Rangel
Swans boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed the club has turned down an undisclosed offer for highly-rated defender Angel Rangel from Premier new boys Blackpool.

The Spaniard missed last night's 9-1 romp over Dutch side VCS on their pre-season tour to Holland, sparking speculation over the 27-year-old's future.

"An offer has come in to the chairman from Blackpool for Angel,'' said Rodgers. "But it has not been accepted.

"The situation is under control and I am due to have a meeting with Angel tomorrow (Friday).

"I want him to stay and there is an offer of another contract on the table for him.

"There is bound to be interest in him, like there was with Darren Pratley, because he's a quality player. Angel is 27, in the last year of his contract and desperate to play in the Premier League. But so are we.

"We have no need to sell him (financially) and I think this is the place to be.

"Like I said, we are in control of the situation and it was just coincidence he didn't play against VCS. Certain players needed a rest rather than play two games in two days. He wasn't the only one.''

The right back arrived from Spanish side Terrassa in the summer of 2008 on a performance-related contract after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of just £15,000.

Angel had a year left on his contract at the Segunda B club, but jumped at the chance of teaming up with the Spanish influence at Swansea under former boss Roberto Martinez.

He has made the right back position his own ever since with 121 league appearances in the last three seasons.

He also attracted interest from Premier League Fulham last season.
