Aberystwyth challenge for business people
Hundreds of top business people are set swap the boardroom for a supreme physical and mental challenge in Aberystwyth this summer. BG Group, a global natural gas business, has announced details of the BG Energy Challenge – UK, a gruelling three day team building event taking place in Aberystwyth and the Cambrian Mountains from Thursday 6th July to Saturday 8th July. The five-stage event will feature hundreds of executives from some of the UK’s top companies battling it out across a range of activities and tasks including kayaking, mountain biking, mountaineering, bridge building, code-breaking and complex construction. The competition is part of the BG Energy Challenge, a series of international events taking place in Trinidad & Tobago, UK, Egypt, Kazakhstan and the Americas for people working within the energy industry. The events bring together a wide range of people to compete in a range of physical and mental challenges whilst raising funds for the leading humanitarian organisation CARE International. Aberystwyth has been selected for the BG Energy Challenge - UK because of its truly outstanding natural landscapes. The breathtaking and diverse terrain, coupled with a year-round sports and tourism season, has meant that the area is the perfect setting for the challenge. Throughout the event, upto 40 corporate teams of five employees, from the post room to the boardroom, will work together to complete team building tasks designed to test each competitor’s mental and physical stamina to the limit. Nevertheless, competing in the BG Energy Challenge isn’t just about meeting and challenging industry peers in the great outdoors – fundraising is a key element. For this year’s UK event, teams will be expected to raise a minimum of £5,000 each for CARE International, a leading humanitarian organisation. BG Group has a long standing relationship with CARE International and in 2005 raised more than £215,000 for the charity which works with over 45 million disadvantaged people in 70 countries across the globe. Previous BG events have already raised more than £1.7million for charity since 1996. BG Group created the Energy Challenge to provide a unique opportunity for businessmen and women to network and team build outside the office while testing their mental and physical stamina to the limit. The UK event is created in collaboration with Challenger World, organisers of last year’s highly successful Microsoft Challenge in Aberystwyth and the world’s leading organisers of inter-business team competitions. Ed ‘Bear’ Grylls, the youngest Briton to climb Mount Everest, will also be speaking at the event and sharing his experiences with the competitors to help them remain motivated and focussed heading into the final stages. Mark Carne, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Europe, BG Group, commented: “We are very excited about coming to Aberystwyth as the area offers superb facilities and the perfect setting for the teams taking part in the UK arm of the BG Energy Challenge. The variety of terrain and unpredictable weather conditions will test the competitors to the limit in a challenge which will bring together those in or related to the energy industry while raising funds for charity.”
