La Fille mal gardee dances to Cardiff
Birmingham Royal Ballet's La Fille mal gardée, packed with dancing chickens, a Shetland pony and colourful folk dances, must be the oldest ballet still in repertoire and will be a great treat for all the family next month.

Performing at Wales Millennium Centre from 11 to 15 July, La Fille mal gardée is regarded as one of the most likeable of all classic ballets, having first been performed nearly a half century ago. With its blend of fun, romance, imagination and dazzling dance this ballet remains a firm favourite for all the family.

WMC's Chief Executive, Judith Isherwood says "Birmingham Royal Ballet is one of Britain's most loved dance companies with the versatility to present a mixture of favourite classics and ground breaking new pieces. This production will delight dance audiences both old and new and I urge everyone to give themselves a treat and attend this family ballet."

La Fille mal gardée tells a joyful tale about Lise, the daughter of a landowning widow who's in love with Colas, a poor local farmer. Lise's mother, however, has set her sights on an arranged marriage with the witless son of a wealthy vineyard owner, but will love find a way?

Birmingham Royal Ballet, formally Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet, moved to Birmingham Hippodrome in 1990 where they have since performed regular sessions to high acclaim. This production will be accompanied by the Royal Ballet Sinfonia who have also played with other leading ballet companies around the world - Paris Opera Ballet, New York City Ballet, Australian Ballet and The Kirov.

La Fille mal gardée is full of fun and imagination which will leave you with a smile on your face. Tickets range from £5 to £30. To book your tickets, contact the ticket and information office on 08700 40 2000 or visit: www.wmc.org.uk
