A week after finishing the Tour de France David Millar won the National Road Race cycling championship which was finally completed in Abergavenny yesterday to clinch the one domestic title that had eluded him.
Geraint Thomas of Wales withdrew before the start because he was mentally tiired after three weeks of riding in the Tour de France.
Millar said the undulating 100 mile course around Monmouthshire was easy compared with the gruelling stages of theTour de France.
He beat Sunbury-on-Thames rider Daniel Lloyd by one second. The bronze medal went to Hamish Haynes. |
