Five year food and fitness launched by first minister
A five-year action plan to improve health and wellbeing in children and young people throughout Wales will be launched by the First Minister Rhodri Morgan at the Food and Fitness for Children and Young People Conference today.

The Food and Fitness Implementation Plan sets out ways in which the Welsh Assembly Government is helping children and young people to eat well, stay fit and achieve the highest standard of health. It provides young people with increased opportunities to make informed decisions about diet and exercise to produce benefits that extend well into the future.

Minister for Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills Jane Davidson will launch the Appetite for Life consultation at the conference. This groundbreaking report proposed to introduce more stringent standards for school lunches and set new minimum standards for all food and drink available throughout the school day. The Food in School Working Group has put together this review.

A series of workshops and speeches will take place throughout the day including events with schools from across Wales and the airing of a good practice DVD.

The conference runs from 9.30am - 4pm although the First Minister and Education Minister will launch the Food and Fitness Implementation Plan and Appetite for Life consultation at 11.50am and 12.05pm respectively.
