4th MTB Bog Snorkelling Chapionships - at a bog on the outskirts of Llanwrtyd Wells on 14 July 2001. A channel 6ft deep has been dug through a peat bog. On a special mountain bike [filled with lead!], competitors have to ride 60ft through the bog using snorkels etc.

10th Red Kite MTB Bash - August 2nd - 5th. Four days of summer riding, fun and frolics in the rugged Cambrian Mountains. On each of the days, there will be a wide range of guided rides on offer, and also family rides if required. Or get lost on your own... borrow a map or tackle one of the orienteering courses. Cost is £25 for 4 days or £8 per day. There is plenty of accommodation available from bunkhouse and camping to comfortable hotels. Enjoy the nightlife... good beer at The Neuadd and Stonecroft, and live entertainment around the town every night.
13th MTB Bog Leaping Point to Point - August 27th at Waen Rydd Bog [signposted from Llanwrtyd Wells town square]. Organised by Llanwrtyd Wells Cycling Club. Starting at 2pm [check in from 1pm], this 22 mile race takes place on the same day as the World Bog Snorkelling Championship. Expect a lot of the rough stuff, as well as the occasional bog-leap [Flippers and snorkel NOT required!]. Many prizes. Camping available. Entry fee £6.
9th Autumn 4 Day Event - October 11-14. A choice of three rides every day, distances approx. 15, 25 or 40 miles. The rides are non-competitive, and are on either waymarked or guided trails through some amazing scenery. Refreshment breaks are included in the cost of the event. Ride in challenging countryside, meet other like-minded bikers and have a great time! Cost is £25 for 4 days, or £8 per day.
The Real Ale Wobble
in conjunction with Mid Wales Beer Festival - Nov 17-18
Non competitive rides of 10, 15 or 25 miles are held each day on waymarked routes, mainly on farm and forest tracks, paths or open country. As there is free beer at checkpoints, all routes will be off-road. Cost is £13 for the two days. Camping is available on the Dolwen Fields, cost £2 per person. There will be live entertainments in Llanwrtyd's free houses, with a choice of 80 real ales for the Mid Wales Beer Festival.
5th Saturnalia Cycle Ride - Jan 12, 2002. In conjuction with the Saturnalia Festival [Winter Warmer Beer Festival], there will be a waymarked mountain bike ride using Roman roads wherever possible, with a choice of 10, 15 or 25 miles off-road. Free beer at checkpioints, entrtainments at Free Houses in Llanwrtyd Wells. |
