Youngsters living in the county borough of Bridgend are set to benefit from an innovative new scheme which will allow them to combine physical exercise with playing their favourite Playstation 2 games.
Believed to be the first scheme of its kind in the country, Playstation equipment has been installed on exercise bikes at Pencoed Swimming Poolâs fitness centre as part of a drive to encourage youngsters to take more exercise.
With the Playstations donated by the Sony UK Technology Centre in Pencoed, the council has worked in partnership with schools in the area to select a group of young people to take part in the scheme who will receive significant benefits from doing more physical activity.
âWe are really impressed with the positive feedback from the youngsters and we look forward to working with them to improve their health and fitness,â said gym co-ordinator Lewis Pengilly.
âWe are delighted to support this initiative by donating Playstations to leisure centres in the county borough,â said Gerald Kelly, General Manager, Sony UK Technolgy Centre, Pencoed.
âIt is a great idea to provide PS2s to encourage youngsters to take more exercise and still have fun.â
Building on its success, the councilâs Leisure Services team is now set to launch the program at Pyle Swimming Pool later in the year. |
